Former police officer Burke Sigurdur Brownfeld will visit us to lead our weekly story time, as well as to present and sign his book When I Grow Up I Want to Be a Guardian: A Book for Future Public Safety Professionals.

When I Grow I Up I Want to Be a Guardian is a book that introduces kids to various public safety jobs in a way that is easy to understand and accessible. The illustrations of the book intentionally have a focus on diverse women serving in public safety roles, as a reminder for all readers that girls can do anything!

Amelia and her cat Boinky wonder what jobs Amelia can do when she grows up. They explore various helping professions that relate to the concept of being a "Guardian." Jobs like police officer and fire fighter are presented to kids in a positive way, that open their eyes to pursuing a public safety profession, all while reminding the reader that pursuing a "Guardian" job is cool for both boys and girls.
